SOMERCOTES PARISH COUNCIL HAS  COUNCILLOR VACANCIES FOLLOWING RECENT RESIGNATIONS

Parish councillors represent the views of their community.  If you would like to have your say in local matters, please forward your details to [email protected] or telephone:  Clerk on 01773 603810 to obtain an application form.

Applicants will be invited to an interview with the HR Sub-Committee team where they will be able to introduce themselves, give information on their background/experience and explain why they wish to become a councillor.

To qualify to hold office at a parish council you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights
  • meet at least ONE of the following four qualifications:
    • You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish.
    • You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish area during the whole of the 12 months prior.
    • Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior has been in the parish area.
    • You have lived in the parish area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months prior.
